Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. is accepting applications for a small group of approximately ten students to participate in the Middle School Exchange that will take place in June of 2014. As a Young Ambassador, students will gain first-hand knowledge and understating of the culture of Clearwater’s Sister City, Nagano, Japan. Students will tour historical sites, experience the school systems, and immerse themselves in Nagano’s culture, staying with a local host family.
The host families are carefully selected by the City of Nagano, have children of the same age, and give Young Ambassadors the opportunity to view a modern day Japanese life. For the past 12 years the program has been coordinated by Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc., which screens and selects two chaperones to travel with the students.

Twelve middle school students and three adults from Nagano, Japan were in Clearwater from October 17-21 as part of the Sister City exchange program. The students visited Safety Harbor and Palm Harbor Middle Schools where they observed classes and gavepresentations about their lives in Japan. They also enjoyed visits to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Disney Orlando. On October 19, CAA co-sponsored the dinner for the Sayonara Party held at Countryside Recreation Center.
Clearwater Sister Cities Inc Seeks 2015 Young Ambassadors
In June 2015, Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. will be accompanying a group of middle school students from local schools on a two week trip to Japan, which will include a homestay in Clearwater’s sister city of Nagano and a visit to some of the cultural and historic highlights of Japan in, typically, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima.

Though the exact cost of this year’s trip is not yet finalized, it is anticipated to be close to $3000, as in past years. That cost will include airfare, train passes while touring, accommodations, entry fees to attractions, and two meals per day. Any spending money and the cost of additional meals will be the responsibility of the participant. Travel medical insurance and a valid passport will be required as well as completion of certain waivers and releases and agreement to a code of conduct.
